Interview with Mr. Shingo Yasumoto of Japanese producer team "Chrysanthemum Bridge" on installing EVE SC203

EVE Audio - Chrysanthemum Bridge Shingo Yasumoto is a Japanese producer who has worked with some of the most creative Japanese artists such as SEKAI NO OWARI, Yuzu, Dempagumi.inc, Silent Siren, Scenarioart, Charisma.com, Go-Bang's, Mimi Meme Mimi or Q-MHz. He has been using the EVE SC203 since he first heard it and felt it was the right speaker he needed for music production.

We visited his state-of-the-art private studio equipped with countless vintage effect pedals, rhythm machines, microphones and instruments to talk about how he uses the EVE SC203 from a composer's, arranger's and producer's perspective.

Thank you very much for installing the EVE SC203. What was your first impression of the speaker?

I'm not flattering, but they are really excellent speakers and I instantly felt "gripped" by them the moment I heard them! The sound is tight and the feel of the low end is great, too. I think these speakers make you want to create music right away.

What exactly made you feel "gripped"?

When I first heard the SC203s, I knew I would like to use them for composing or producing. What I regard as the most important factor is the feel of the low end. If you play back fat kick sound and you don't hear that certain BOOM, you won't feel like making music. Speakers that fail to reproduce the fat kick sound of a vintage rhythm machine wouldn't make you feel "gripped", you know.

German press about SC203

Studio Magazin

"They sound significantly larger than they look - very consistent and well-balanced with a surprisingly good reproduction of transients and spatial imaging. The lows are "present" and allow for a musical appraisal, too.
Interestingly enough, the SC203 are amazingly neutral and add no coloration. At a realistic listening distance [...] the SC203 provide a full sound with truly professional qualities for the usage stated earlier.
You get a professional desktop monitor with excellent performance and imaging precision to satisfy professional demands. Clear mids, open highs, and adequate lows - despite their miniature dimensions -, plus a feature set that's hard to find even on much bigger studio monitors. It's obvious that the designer knew perfectly well the requirements of a desktop environment and monitoring system and, thus, was able to perfectly implement the demands on professional monitoring in an extremely compact design. A small alternative system for large studio monitors, as an editing or pre-mixing tool, as a compact live set in an OB vehicle, or for mobile recording with a small setup. Well done!"

"... high frequencies are detailed and with fine resolution.
Spatial displays and depth of SC203 are outstanding. They deliver an excellent phantom center...
Its surprising what low end those small speakers reproduce...
Considering the size of the speakers you much more SPL then expected...
Conclusion: Despite its compact size EVE Audio SC203 are suitable for nearfield monitoring - if someone does not necessarily need the sub bass frequencies. Bass range and linearity are exceptional considering the size. The concept is well thought through and for project studios and mobile applications recommended.
Plus: Good sound allows to judge mixes precisely
Excellent spatial display including phantom center
Surprising bass reproduction for that size
Versatile and well thought through possibilities to adjust and set up
Small, lightweight, mobile, low energy consumption
Expandable by combining with Sub
Minus: External power supply"

Tools 4 Music

"The frequency range covers 62 Hz to 23 kHz (-3 dB), at which the lower cut-off frequency of 62 Hz is an unique selling point for loudspeakers of that size. With SC203 the Berlin based manufacturer EVE Audio provides a high-class master/slave combination.
The measurements of these loudspeakers are good and very good.
The practical setting options that are developed for that loudspeaker only, the adapted transducers and the scope of delivery complete the positive overall impressions."

Good to know

EVE Audio Subwoofers In the entire range of our TS1XX subwoofers, the DSP section, which uses a high resolution BurrBrown converter, affects the bass driver operation only. The signal path to the satellite speakers is kept purely analog, with no A/D/A conversions whatsoever.

That's why the "Pure Satellite" function, when activated, completely bypasses the subwoofer and DSP filter section, and will only allow you to adjust your satellite's volume.
